Cultural UI Design - The IRMAP Approach

Designing products for culturally diverse markets is a challenging activity faced by all international product manufacturers.

BERGO has pioneered the IRMAP approach, based on our work with multi-national product manufacturers and on a large-scale literature review into cross-cultural usability.

The approach provides a structured, step-by-step process that helps product design teams gain a deeper insight into how cross-cultural users perceive and interact with their products.

Cultural UI profiles are developed for different markets and design recommendations to maximise user acceptance are proposed.

Cultural Usability Evaluation & Testing

Many US e-commerce websites experienced substantial losses in revenue due to not understanding how cross-cultural users interacted with their website.

Nielson, J (2005)

BERGO is able to evaluate and test the usability of products for different markets.

We can use techniques such as heuristic evaluation and cognitive walkthrough to inspect the design of products and evaluate how well it meets the needs of users from different cultures.

We can also carry out usability testing across global regions and can liaise with national and regional agencies for the purposes of sampling and project execution.

Training in Cross-Cultural Usability

Nick Bradley
